Component-level repairs In the image to the left you can see a hewlett packard motherboard. At the top in the middle is the south bridge chipset. This handles the sound modem and other cards attatched to the board. This chip rarely has any problems at all. On the left is the memory chips. These will suffer problems often just after a memory upgrade as the customer may put thier greasy fingers on the contacts and cause memory problems freezing and the computer locking up. In the middle of the image are some integrated circuit chips and also some capacitors.  There are 2 large bobinas on the left. the capacitors will sometimes die on the motherboard and this is quite a common problem. They usual fix is just to replace them. for an engineer this will only take a few minutes.
